Q1. What are Wikki Stix?
Wikki Stix are pieces of synthetic yarn covered with a waxy, slightly tacky substance. They can be bent, shaped, stuck together with just a bit of pressure. They are unbreakable but can easily be cut with scissors (even small kids scissors). Wikki Stix stick to smooth surfaces (card, plastic, desks, food containers, glass, china, whiteboards, etc...) with just a bit of pressure. Once stuck they can be easily lifted, re-positioned and stuck again. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to use them which lots of kids, families and educators love.
Q2. What are Wikki Stix made of?
The core of the Wikki Stix is acrylic synthetic yarn (unlike pipe cleaners there is no metal core in a Wikki Stix making it much safer). The wax coating is food grade and made of a similar substance to that found in lipstick and bubble gum. Wikki Stixx are completely non toxic (see below).
Q3. Tell me about product safety and Wikki Stix?
Wikki Stix have always proudly been made in the USA under very controlled conditions. Wikki Stix conform to safety standard ASTM D-4236 (art material safety standard). Wikki Stix do not contain lead (Pb) or other toxic components. If you are concerned about allergens, you'll be pleased to know that Wikki Stix do not contain latex, gluten or any nut or peanut compounds or byproducts.
Q4. What are the typical uses of Wikki Stix?
Wikki Stix are incredibly flexible (pun intended!) and can be used in so many different ways. Kids as young as three can manipulate and play with Wikki Stix. Wikki Stix are also used in aged-care homes to maintain fine motor skills in seniors. So users can be bewteen 3 and 103 years of age!
Wikki Stix can be used for play (see some our kits on the online store), creative activities and craft, learning and teaching of course but their huge versatility means they are also used by occupational therapists to assist with fine motor skills, special needs educators (autism, aspergers, ADHD, low or no vision students and many more), aged care workers use them too. They are also very hhandy to have around the home for tying things, as an alternative to Blu-tack, for holding things in place whilst gluing, etc... The possibilities are pretty much endless!
Q5. Can I wash Wikki Stix if they get dirty?
Yes it's possible. Gently rinse out the Wikki Stix in lukewarm water (without detergent or soap) and dry them either with some kitchen paper or by leaving them drain overnight. Takeaway food containers or ziplock bags are great to store Wikki Stix.
Q6. Help! The kids have covered my car windows with Wikki Stix.
First, DON'T reach for the Windex or any similar product! Simply use a DRY paper towel and rub. It may take a moment of elbow grease, but it will come right off.
